Select-a-Press is the Internet's premier provider of Brass Quintet Arrangements.

GARY SAYS “THANKS” to his friends (and fantastic musicians) in the Riverbend Brass Quintet (aka “The Austin Symphony Brass Quintet,” aka “The Capital of Texas Brass Quintet”) for their beautiful performances, and for their patience and contributions made through the years in “tweaking” the arrangements you hear on this web site!

Performing on most of the 30-second cuts are the amazing Bernie Nero playing First Trumpet, me on second, Stuart Hutto (sometimes Tom Hale) on Horn, the versatile Mike Mordecai on Trombone, and Jay Rozen (who moved to New York in 1999) on Tuba, and on the more recent cuts, Kerry Williams playing Tuba and Bass Trombone.

Many of the musical samples were recorded during Sunday morning services at Riverbend Church, our regular gig for the past 15-or-so years. Music Minister Carlton Dillard has been our biggest supporter, allowing (even encouraging) us to reach out with new, and often risky, material. (Check out the Mariachi version of “Put You Hand In the Hand,” the hip-hop treatment of “Michael, Row the Boat Ashore,” or “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands” as a jazz samba.) Carlton also plays the trombone solos on “Give Them All To Jesus,” and “Just A Little Talk With Jesus.”

Two snippets are taken from a CD brilliantly performed by my friends in the faculty quintet at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas: “My Spirit Be Joyful,” and “Allegro from Concerto Grosso No. 10.”

The titles that I don’t have a recording of are represented by my Roland XP-10 as directed by Finale® 2002d. I’ll replace those examples with live players as soon as possible.

I arrange most titles to “stand alone” as a brass quintet, including many that are recorded with optional rhythm section. For those few where a rhythm section is essential, you will see “RHYTHM SECTION REQUIRED.”
